This week’s Wisconsin restaurant pick: Crepuw

The Crepuw Cart

I still don’t know how to pronounce it.

Crepe-UW? Crep-you? Crep-oo? (ps, it’s Crep-you)

Honestly, doesn’t matter.

Because whatever you call it, this little crepe cart on campus is making some of the best crepes I’ve had in Madison.

And yes, I’m fully aware I just said that about a food cart I could barely name out loud.

The Lowdown

  • City: Madison, WI

  • Address: It’s a cart, it moves!

The Ambiance

This is not a sit-down, fancy brunch crepe situation.

This is a cart-on-campus situation. Which means yes, getting there can be a little annoying if you’re not already near UW. Parking around campus is basically a personality test.

But the cart itself is fun, simple, and super friendly. The two guys working there were incredibly nice, and you can tell they actually care about what they’re making.

It has that “small food cart doing something weirdly awesome” energy.

About the restaurant:

Crepuw is a newer Madison crepe cart serving sweet and savory crepes, and their big thing is that the crepes are made with 100% rice flour, which makes them naturally gluten-free.

That’s actually a pretty big deal because gluten-free crepes are not exactly everywhere in Madison.

They were also part of Madison’s 2025 Food Cart Review and scored an 88.22, which put them in the official Mall/Concourse vending rankings.

So yeah, not just Troy yelling about a crepe in his car. The city also seems to agree they’re legit.

What I Ordered

  • Strawberry Dubai Crepe

  • Roast Beef Crepe with chipotle sauce

My thoughts on the food

Strawberry Dubai Crepe

This was insane. The crepe itself was super soft, super thin, and had that perfect “is this bread, is this a wrap, what am I eating?” thing going on.

The filling had strawberries, chocolate, pistachio flavor, and that crunchy Dubai dessert texture from shredded phyllo/knafeh-style pieces. It was sweet, but not “I need to go lie down” sweet. Just balanced, crunchy, soft, and honestly kind of ridiculous.

This might be the best crepe I’ve ever had.

Roast Beef Crepe

I did not expect to love this one as much as I did.

It was basically a really good cold-cut sandwich wrapped in a thin, soft crepe. Roast beef, lettuce, tomato, chipotle sauce, all tucked into that rice flour wrap thingy.

The only heads-up: because the crepe is so thin, it can rip a little. So maybe don’t try to eat this in your car like an animal unless you enjoy wearing chipotle sauce.

But flavor-wise? Shockingly good.

Important & interesting info:

  • All of their crepes are gluten-free and made with rice flour.

  • They serve both sweet and savory crepes.

  • They’re usually around UW Library Mall / State Street during the week.

  • Their Instagram also mentions catering for weddings, events, and celebrations.

  • Madison Reddit users have already started mentioning Crepuw as one of their favorite reviewed food carts.

Conclusion

Crepuw is one of those spots that feels easy to overlook because it’s “just a cart.”

Do not overlook it.

The sweet crepe was unreal. The savory one was way better than I expected. And the fact that everything is gluten-free makes it even cooler.

I still can’t pronounce the name.

But I can absolutely recommend the crepes.
