This week’s Wisconsin restaurant pick: Nar Turkish Restaurant

Come with me for a second.
I stopped by Nar Turkish because I wanted to try Turkish ice cream for the first time ever… and I was absolutely not prepared for how different it is. In a good way. Like a “wait, why is my ice cream stretching?” kind of way.
The Ambiance
Super casual, no-frills neighborhood spot.
Nothing fancy, nothing forced. It feels like the kind of place locals quietly love and don’t overhype, which usually means the food does all the talking.
About the restaurant:
Nar Turkish Halal is best known for their halal plates - chicken and rice, lamb and rice, hearty comfort food that actually fills you up.
But they also make homemade desserts and Turkish ice cream in-house, which is what pulled me in this time.
They’re sitting at an almost perfect rating online, and after going, I get why.
What I Ordered
I already ate lunch, so I went full dessert mode:
Turkish ice cream (Oreo flavor)
Other flavors include vanilla, chocolate, and strawberryAlmond cookie with powdered sugar
Shekerpare (traditional Turkish soft cookie)
Everything I tried was homemade.
My thoughts on the food
Turkish Ice Cream
This is not your normal ice cream. It’s made with goat milk and salep, which makes it resistant to melting and gives it a chewy, stretchy texture. Totally different than custard or scoop-shop ice cream. The Oreo flavor was really solid, and honestly, just fun to eat because it’s so unique.
Almond Cookie
Big crunch. Light sweetness. Not overpowering at all. And here’s where things got interesting… this cookie paired with the Oreo ice cream is elite.
Like… Nar should straight up sell this as a combo.
Shekerpare
Very, very soft. Like borderline falling apart in your hand soft. The flavor is good, but I’m a texture guy, and this one is definitely for people who love extremely soft cookies.
Glad I tried it, but personal (texture) preference thing here.
Important & interesting info:
Everything I ate was made in-house
Turkish ice cream (also called dondurma) is known for its chewy texture and slow melt
Pro tip: when you walk up, make sure you go into the correct entrance. It’s easy to wander into the wrong door if you’re not paying attention (definitely not speaking from experience…)
Conclusion

Nar Turkish on Fordem is a legit gem.
If you want to try something different from your usual dessert rotation, the Turkish ice cream is absolutely worth the stop. Grab a cookie while you’re at it, too.
I’m 100% coming back when I’m actually hungry because if the dessert game is this strong, I need to see what the halal plates are all about.
