This week’s Wisconsin restaurant pick: Stadium Takeout

I don’t say this lightly…

This might be one of the most dangerously messy (in the best way) sandwiches in Madison.

Like the kind of place where you take one bite, look down, and realize your entire game plan for the day just changed.

Also, it’s right by Camp Randall. So there’s a very real chance you came here “just to grab something quick”… and accidentally found one of the best sandwiches in the city.

The Lowdown

  • City: Madison, WI

  • Address: 1413 Monroe St, Madison, WI 53711

The Ambiance

This is not a “hang out for two hours” type of place.

This is:

  • walk in

  • order at the counter

  • grab your food

  • figure out where you’re eating it later

It’s small, quick, and built for takeout. But it fits the vibe perfectly.

Feels like a Chicago-style sandwich shop dropped right onto Monroe Street. No fluff, just food.

About the restaurant:

Stadium Takeout is basically a Chicago comfort food spot in Madison.

Think:

  • Italian beef

  • Chicago dogs

  • Philly cheesesteaks

  • wings (and yes… they’ve got a $1 wing deal on Mondays)

They’re especially known for their Italian beef sandwich “The Donfather” which is what pretty much everyone will tell you to get first.

Also:

  • They’ve got 4.9 stars across hundreds of reviews

  • People consistently call it a hidden gem near Camp Randall

What I Ordered

  • The Donfather (ordered it wet btw)

  • Onion Rings (aka… no turning back)

  • Chicago dog

  • Homemade Italian Ice

My thoughts on the food

The Donfather:

This thing is an absolute unit. Loaded with beef, cheese pulling everywhere, and soaked in au jus. If you’ve never had a dipped sandwich before, the soggy bread might throw you off for a second… but the flavor is unreal. Super juicy, super rich, and worth the mess.

The bread (Stella’s spicy cheese bread):
Sneaky star of the whole thing. Soft, flavorful, and somehow holds everything together just enough. Adds a ton of character to the sandwich.

Onion Rings:

Standard onion rings here. They tasted great. Added a little bit of salt to make them even better.

Nothing fancy.

Hot Dog:

My wife got a Chicago Dog. Hot dogs are her favorite and she said it was absolutely amazing so that’s saying something.

Italian Ice:

Unbelievable flavor and felt “light”. I didn’t feel like I was eating hundreds of calories while eating it. Win-win.

Important & interesting info:

  • Known for one of the best Italian beef sandwiches in Madison

  • Monday special: $1 wings, which a lot of people specifically go for

  • Philly cheesesteak also gets a ton of love in reviews

  • Consistently sits around 4.8–4.9 stars with 400+ reviews

  • Located right off Monroe Street near Camp Randall Stadium

Conclusion

If you want something clean and easy… this is not your place.

If you want a big, messy, flavor-packed sandwich that feels like it came straight out of Chicago… go to Stadium Takeout.

Get the Donfather.
Get it dipped.
And just accept what’s about to happen.
